ROLE
Design Lead · via Publicis Sapient
TIMELINE
6 months · January to June 2025
Team
Audit conducted solo, with creative direction oversight. Build delivered with two senior designers, a supporting design lead, and dedicated animation and prototyping support.
SCOPE
Design system audit · Phased scale roadmap · NA, EMEA, Asia
I OWNED
The audit methodology, the Figma API audit tooling, and the stress-testing and refinement of the universal component architecture
The challenge
Lululemon's redesign needed a system that could hold across three regions, and the one it had was already drifting apart platform by platform.
What I did
Audited the system across people, process, and pixels, building the component inventory programmatically, then led my team through stress-testing the universal component library against the languages most likely to break it and refitting most of it to hold up long term.
The outcome
A phased scale roadmap the client aligned on through facilitated working sessions, and a refit library that shipped. The launched app and e-commerce experience closely reflect what my team delivered.
TL;DR
A design system serving multiple platforms and markets doesn't break all at once. It drifts, one platform-specific workaround at a time, until teams are rebuilding what already exists under different names. With a redesign in motion and global ambitions ahead, Lululemon needed to know how far the drift had gone and whether the system could scale. I led the audit, then worked with my team to stress-test and refine the universal component foundation until it fit the realities of three markets.
My takeaway — and what that means for you
